The Chiasm of the Sermon on the Mount

A chiasm is a rhetorical device in which the grammatical structure or concepts of the first half of a passage are mirrored and reversed in the second half. It is amazing the connectedness of the Sermon on the Mount and other passages of the Bible.

It is Mother's Day Sunday! It may seem strange to have a sermon from Matthew 5:31-32 on Mother's Day, but this passage is a strong protection of women and of mothers. In Jesus' time, women were not allowed to divorce and could be divorced for things as small as burning the dinner. Jesus' words gave strong protections to women and mothers.
