Questions for Discussion
We often present the gospel in terms of Jesus’ kingship: “Jesus the King, submit to him”. In what situations would it be helpful to present the gospel in terms of Jesus’ priesthood: “Jesus the priest, come into God’s presence through him”?
Why was the divine appointment of the high priest significant? How does Jesus’ priesthood relate to Melchizedek’s in this regard, and what does it tell us about God’s purposes?
By looking at verse 7, what can we learn about Jesus’ reverence for God the Father and how we can imitate that in our own lives?
In your own words, explain what it means for Jesus to be made perfect through suffering. Why was it necessary for Jesus to learn obedience through suffering? What part do suffering and death play in our becoming perfect through suffering?
