Sermon Series:
This week, pastoral elder Eric Byrom remarks on a passage in Hebrews that wrecked him in a good way. He hopes that it wrecks you as well.
Scripture Reading- Hebrews 4:1-13
Sermon Outline
- Work hard at entering God’s promised land rest!
- Work hard at entering God’s satisfied creation rest!
- Work hard at entering God’s believing rest!
Questions for Discussion
- What comes to mind when you think of rest? What does it look like for you? Do you leave that rest feeling truly rested? Why or why not?
- How do we deal with this oxymoron of working hard to enter God’s rest? How do you reconcile this truth here in this passage?
- How does the promised land rest rescue you from being a slave? What might this look like for you?
- How does God’s satisfied creation rest set us free from self-justification? Are you experiencing this rest. How might you work hard at entering this?
- What sort of ordeal does God’s believing rest require us to go through before we experience it? How did that look for you when you went through that ordeal?
- What is one thing that God wants you to remember, do or change in response to what you heard today?
