Collision Sunday

Speaker:
Matt Godsil
Sermon Date:
Sunday, March 24, 2024

This week, pastoral elder Matt Godsil gives a great sermon on Palm Sunday and the meaning behind the Palms.

Sermon Outline

  • Jesus chose the week of Passover in Jerusalem to make His final ascent to the cross.
  • The Kingdom of Empire enters the city from the west, as the Kingdom of Shalom enters the city from the east, in the greatest showdown of all time.
  • The contrast between the two Kingdoms could not be more stark.
  • The gospel writers record the crowd reacting to the prophecies of Zechariah as they shout references to Psalm 118. They wave palm branches and proclaim Jesus as their King.

Sermon Passage: Matthew 21:1-11

Questions for Study and Discussion

  1. How does the celebration of the Passover relate to Jesus’s mission into Jerusalem and the temple?
  2. Where do you encounter the procession of the Kingdom of this world today?
  3. Where and when do you encounter the choice between the kingdom of the world and the kingdom of heaven in your life?
  4. What is the reason you would choose to follow Jesus of Nazareth on a donkey, into the city and its temple as He picks up His cross, and then to pick up your cross every day, to follow Him?
